Electronic Brake Controller:
This is a device that is connected inside the vehicle. The device communicates to the trailer the necessary amount to apply to the trailer brakes when the vehicles brakes are applied. You can check your vehicles owner manual to determine if your vehicle is equipped with an Electronic Brake Controller.
Yes. Florid state law (code 316.261) states that any trailer with a gross weight of 3,000 lbs or more must be equipped with brakes and those brakes must be able to be applied by the driver of the tow vehicle from the cab.
We highly recommend that the vehicle has a trailer brake installed. We will soon be offering a bluetooth brake controller in the near future for customers who don’t have one already installed. Customer assumes all responsibility if they choose to tow without a brake controller.
If your vehicle has a brake controller installed, it needs to be adjusted accordingly to prevent trailer tires from locking up and possibly losing control. Adjusting trailer brakes will prevent tire from “Flat spotting” which will be the customers responsibility to buy a new tire.

When you rent a trailer from The Trailer Team, it is essential for you to determine whether your personal auto insurance policy provides coverage for towing our rental trailers. Your personal auto insurance serves as the primary insurance during the rental period.
For those whose personal auto insurance does not cover towing, or for renters seeking additional liability protection, The Trailer Team strongly recommends purchasing Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) through MBA Insurance. This supplemental coverage is designed to provide liability coverage and can be purchased at approximately $11.00 per day directly from the MBA Insurance website at mbatrailer.com.
The Supplemental Liability Insurance is intended to protect against third-party claims for bodily injury and property damage if you are deemed at fault in an accident while using the rented trailer. This insurance is to protect you from paying damages out of pocket and may provide defense against lawsuits.
Please be aware that the Supplemental Liability Insurance only covers liability and does not cover damage to the rented trailer itself, personal property, or medical expenses of the renter. Coverage for physical damage to the rented trailer may require a separate policy or coverage option.
We highly encourage you to examine the coverage specifics and limitations as outlined by MBA Insurance before purchasing the supplemental insurance. It is your responsibility to choose the insurance option that adequately meets your needs while renting our trailers.
This disclaimer is not legal or insurance advice. Please consult with your insurance agent or a professional advisor to ensure that you understand the scope of trailer towing insurance and to confirm that you are sufficiently covered.
The Trailer Team is not liable for any incidents, damages, or liabilities occurring during the rental period that are not covered by the supplemental insurance or your personal insurance policy.
If you need to cancel your rental, you must give us notice of cancellation at least 24 hours prior to your pick-up time. Any cancellations made within 24 hours of your pick-up time will result in your credit card on file being charged 50% of your Total Rental Cost (excluding the security deposit).
